10 of the Best Beauty Looks From the 2020 BET Awards

BET Awards 2020

The 2020 BET Awards celebrated Black excellence, Black culture, and Black beauty. This year marked the 20th year of the award show and Black Entertainment Television’s 40th year. While in-person functions like award shows have been put on pause, BET flawlessly executed a stellar socially distant virtual ceremony to celebrate their four-decade-long history. The digital show was packed with award presentations and creative performances that we can’t stop talking about, including performances by Chloe x Halle, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson.

And while there may not have been a red carpet this year, the stars still delivered jaw-dropping beauty looks. Ahead, our favorite beauty looks from the 2020 BET Awards, from Tracee Ellis Ross to Lizzo.

Amanda Seales

BET Awards 2020

As this year’s host, Seales came through with several beauty looks throughout the show. And her glam team made it all happen via Zoom and Facetime. With virtual direction from hairstylist Nicole Newland, Seales styled her twists several different ways, ranging from a side-swept ponytail to a beautiful bun to half-up half-down. Her makeup looks were put together by celebrity makeup artist, Renee.

Lizzo

Last night, Lizzo accepted the award for “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.” She graced the screen with a sleek, textured ponytail styled by Shelby Swain. Her makeup artist Ernesto Casillas opted for a clean, natural glam that left us all in awe of her glowing complexion.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross never misses a beat when it comes to her beauty looks. Ross did her own glam for the virtual ceremony, wearing a bold black eyeliner and vibrant hot-pink lip. For hair, she slicked back her natural tresses and swooped her edges—we’re betting she used Pattern Beauty’s new Edge Control ($12).

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys’ performance of “Perfect Way to Die”—a song that addresses the Black lives lost to police brutality and systemic racism— was one of the most emotional, profound moments of the night’s lineup. The singer’s hair was pulled back into a ponytail with triangle parting on one side and sleek edges.

Summer Walker

Summer Walker had us all mesmerized as she performed “Session 32” and her sultry duet with Usher “Come Thru.” She paired her ponytail locs with perfectly pressed bangs, creating an ultra-unique look.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion won the award for “Best Female Hip Hop Artist” and gave a high-energy performance of her songs “Girls In The Hood” and “Savage.” Our eyes were locked on her performance glam the whole time because she looked that good. Megan’s hairstylist Kellon Deryck kept her tresses bone-straight using the Dyson Corrale Cordless Hair Straightener ($500). Her makeup featured a fun smokey eye with a pop of blue and a brown lip.

Michelle Obama

BET Awards 2020

Former First Lady Michelle Obama made a special appearance to present Beyonce with this year’s Humanitarian Award. Mrs. Obama took the screen wearing her natural curls. When it came to her makeup, she went for a natural glam and pulled the look together with a glossy, light brown lip color.

Beyoncé

BET Awards 2020

Beyoncé received this year’s Humanitarian Award for the philanthropic efforts of her BeyGood foundation. And let’s just say, her acceptance speech glam was everything. She wore her signature blonde hair sleek and straight with a middle part done by Nakia Collins. For makeup, her artist Rokael went for a “throwback glam” look, giving Beyoncé a natural base, bronzy eyelid, and super glossy nude lip.

Jennifer Hudson

J-Hud paid tribute to Aretha Franklin last night with a beautiful rendition of Franklin’s song, “Young, Gifted and Black.” Her performance makeup— done by Adam Burrell — featured a green eyeliner (to match her dress, of course) and a peachy-nude lip color. The singer rocked a nude shimmer mani created by Badazznailzz. And to complete the look, Albert Morrison styled her locs in a stunning crown updo.

Chloe x Halle Bailey

BET Awards 2020

For their performance of “Forgive Me” and “Do It,” Chloe and Halle wore their locs in matching half-up styles. They both wore a bronzy eye, glossy lip, and fluttery lashes that popped on the screen.
